Forward 9
Alexander Isak is one of the technical forwards in all of Europe. The Swedish man joined Liverpool FC in the summer of 2025 after making a big money move from Newcastle United.
Isak was born on September 21, 1999, in the capital city of Sweden, Stockholm. He is the youngest child of a family of six (6) of Eritrean heritage from the Tigrinya Ethnic group. His football career began with one of the most notable Swedish clubs, AIK.
At AIK, he earned a reputation for his goal scoring ability, and at just 16 years old, he made a first team appearance for the club in a Swedish Cup away game against Tenhult IF, where he also scored his first senior goal in 6:0 victory after coming on as a substitute in the 75th minute of the game.
He became the youngest goal scorer for AIK in the Allsvenskan competition at just 16 years, 199 days, after scoring in an away game against Östersunds. He pulled out a performance that announced him as one of the brightest young Swedish players.
Towards the end of the 2016 season, Isak signed his first professional contract with AIK, a few days after scoring his first home goal for the club at the Friends Arena. His performance attracted the eyes of big clubs across Europe, and he later made a move to Germany.
Alexander Isak signed a long term contract with the German club Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of €9 million, which at the time was the biggest amount an Allsvenskan player was sold for. He scored his first competitive goal for Dortmund against FC Magdeburg in a 5:0 victory, but it was not enough to give him more playing time at the club.
With limited minutes at Borussia Dortmund, he was loaned to the Dutch club Willem II, where his career was revived. He helped Willem II reach the Dutch Cup final for the first time since 2005, proving he was ready to play football at the higher stage. Making 18 appearances, scoring 14 goals, and delivering 7 assists.
The La Liga club Real Sociedad signed Isak from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of €10 million. As incredible as it could be, he scored his first goal in his first game for the club in a pre season tournament. He scored his first La Liga goal against Espanyol, announcing his arrival in the league.
Alexander Isak made 132 appearances at Real Sociedad, scoring 44 goals and helped the club win the 2019/2020 Copa del Rey. Making him one of the most feared attackers in all of Europe.
On 23 March 2019, Isak made his first competitive appearance for Sweden on March 23 2019, coming in as a substitute in the 88th minute of the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying game against Romania, which Sweden won 2:1.
In the Summer of 2022, Newcastle United paid a club record fee of £63 million to sign Isak from Real Sociedad for a six (6) year contract, which was supposed to run until 2028. Isak made his Premier League debut on August 31 against Liverpool, scoring in the 2:1 defeat and being named man of the match.
An armstring injury kept him out for 16 games shortly after joining the club. He returned from injury and scored his first goal against Fulham United in a 1:0 victory. Isak equalised Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s record of having the most goals scored by a Swedish player in the Premier League, after scoring twice against Tottenham Hotspur on April 14, 2024.
Alexander Isak scored his first hat-trick for Newcastle on December 21, 2024, against Ipswich Town, making him the second Swedish player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League.
At the end of the 2024/2025 season, he informed Newcastle United of his plan to leave the club; his move from the club raised so much controversy, as Newcastle United wanted him to remain at the club despite a British transfer offer on the table.
Liverpool FC signed Isak on September 1, 2025, for a transfer fee of £125 million, just a few months after breaking the British transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayern Leverkusen. Isak became the most expensive player in Premier League history and the third most expensive transfer of all time.
He made his debut for Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League game against Atletico Madrid, after being sidelined by Arne Slot for lack of match fitness. He scored his first goal against Southampton in a 2:1 victory and scored again against West Ham United, which was his first league goal for Liverpool.
Isak scored a goal in a Premier League victory against Tottenham Hotspur, but suffered an injury after defender Micky van de Ven tackled him. He underwent surgery a few days later, which kept him on the sidelines for three (3) months.
