Midfielder 38
Ryan Gravenberch, one of the most exciting midfielders in European football, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2023 from Bayern Munich.
Gravenberch was born on May 16, 2002, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Afro Surinamese parents. He developed an interest in football at a very young age; his talent soon caught the attention of scouts, which led to him joining the famous Ajax youth Academy.
Shortly after joining the academy, he received the first ever Abdelhak Nouri Trofee, naming him as the most talented player in the Ajax academy. The same day, he signed his first professional contract with the club, that is to run until 2023.
Gravenberch played his first senior game for Ajax on September 23, 2018, against PSV, making him the youngest player to play in the Netherlands Eredivisie at 16 years and 130 days, breaking the previous record held by Clarence Seedorf for 16 years 242 days.
He became the youngest goal scorer at the club just three (3) days later, after scoring in a 7:0 victory against Te Werve in a KNVB Cup tournament. His first UEFA Champions League goal came against Midtjylland in a 3:1 victory.
His first ever call up to the Netherlands senior squad was in November 2020, and he played his debut game in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers game against Turkey. He scored his first international goal in a UEFA Euro pre tournament friendly match against Georgia.
Bayern Munich signed the Dutchman on June 13, 2022, for a transfer fee of €18 million plus an additional €5 million for variables, which was paid to Ajax. Gravenberch showed his worth as, within a few months into his contract, he scored his first goal and provided an assist against Viktoria Köln in a DFB Pokal tournament.
On the final day of the 2023 transfer window, Liverpool FC splashed €40 million to sign Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich on a 5 year contract. It was in the same transfer window the club also signed Dominik Szoboszlai from the Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Gravenberch made his debut appearance for Liverpool on September 21, 2023, replacing Mohammed Salah in the 93rd minute against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He scored his first Premier League goal on April 21, 2024, against Fulham in a 3:1 victory.
At Liverpool, he has continued to display exceptional maturity with the ball. Under the management of Arne Slot, he became a very important player due to the role he plays in the midfield. At the end of the 2024/2025 season, Gravenberch was awarded the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
In the 2025/2026 season, he signed a six (6) year contract with Liverpool, which clearly states he will stay at the club until 2032.
