Khiara Keating joined Liverpool in the summer of 2026 after completing a move from Manchester City Women’s side to become the goalie for the Reds Women’s side.
Keating was born on 27 June 2004 in Manchester, England, but grew up in Ardwick in the southeast of the city centre. She is culturally mixed, as her mother is English and her father is Jamaican. She started her football career as a striker before switching to goalkeeping during a trial at Manchester United.
She joined the Manchester City academy at age 11, after leaving her childhood club Manchester United. Khiara’s athletic traits helped her progress through the academy ranks at City until the 2021/2022 season, when she was promoted to the senior team.
Before making her debut appearance for Manchester City, Keating had earlier appeared on the bench in the 2020/2021 season but was an unused substitute before making a loan move to National League North’s AFC Fylde.
She was called back from loan after Manchester City had a long list of injured senior players, which led to her debut senior appearance on January 12, 2022, at just the age of 17. Her first senior appearance for City was in an FA Women’s League Cup against Leicester City.
After the recovery of most of the squad members, Keating joined Coventry United on a loan spell for the rest of the 2022/2023 season.
The 2023/2024 campaign was her breakthrough season, as she was offered a three (3) year contract extension with Manchester City in November, just a month after she won the WSL Player of the Month for October.
By December 2023, Keating already had the third-highest percentage of saves in the Women’s League, which eventually made her City’s first choice goalkeeper. She also received her first England senior call up in the UEFA Nations League match.
At the end of the 2023/2024 season, she won the WSL Golden Glove, with nine (9) clean sheets, making her the youngest goalkeeper to attain this feat.
Keating made her senior international debut on 25 October 2025 during a 2:1 friendly defeat against Brazil. In doing so, she became the first black women’s goalkeeper to play for England at senior level, which awarded her the legacy number 236.
By the end of her contract in 2026, Keating refused a contract extension with Manchester City after making just 9 appearances with four (4) clean sheets in the 2025/2026 season, helping City win the WSL title and the Women’s FA Cup. According to reports, she was on a quest for consistent playing time.
In July 2026, Keating joined the Liverpool Women side as a free agent; it was reported that she was offered a three (3) year contract, which will see her actively involved in games for the Reds until the summer of 2029.
