Rachael Laws is currently Liverpool’s oldest female active player at age 35, and is enjoying a second term as a Liverpool player after previously joining the club on a loan move from Sunderland in 2013.

Laws was born on 5 November, 1990 in Newcastle upon Tyne, a full-blown British citizen who started playing football at a very young age, developing her career as a Goalkeeper through grassroots football before joining.

She officially started her career at Sunderland and had her first senior experience while playing for the black cats before completing a loan move to Liverpool in 2013, a loan move which eventually became a great milestone in her career.

Just nine (9) appearances for the Liverpool Women’s side were enough to help her win the Women’s Super League, which was the first major trophy in her career after previously winning the FA Women’s National League Cup with the Sunderland side in 2012.

Laws was first called up to the Women’s senior squad in 2014 for England’s World Cup qualification, but was eventually an unused substitute in the 10:0 victory against Montenegro.

After being denied a place by Sunderland in the 2018/2019 FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL), she joined Reading. Laws spent two seasons at Reading before leaving the club in 2020 after her contract expired.

On 7 July 2020, barely a month after leaving Reading, it was announced that she joined the Liverpool women’s side, who had just been relegated to the Women’s Super League II (WSL 2).

Laws played an important role in helping Liverpool Women win the FA Women’s Championship title in the 2021/2022 season and securing their return to the Women’s Super League. She set a personal record in the campaign with 13 clean sheets, and Liverpool Women went 20 games unbeaten.

She became a regular starter for the Liverpool Women side after their promotion, and in July 2025 the Reds offered her a contract extension to extend her stay at the club.

Before the start of the 2025/2026 season she sent a heartfelt message to the fans: “This is my home, I’ve got a house here and it was a no-brainer. When they said they wanted to keep me I was like, ‘Where do I sign?’ I’m looking forward to the next year or so.

“The fans have been fantastic for me from day one and not just now but my first spell as well they welcomed me with open arms. I like to repay them in the best way I can, whether that is by good performances or wins.”
