Joe Gomez represents determination and real loyalty since arriving Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in 2015. He has been a reliable assert to the club’s backline despite battling series of injury.

Joseph Dave Gomez was born on May 23rd, 1997, in Catford, Greater London, England. Being raised in South London, he developed a passion for football at a young age and joined Charlton Athletic academy in 2007 where he developed into a bright defender.

Gomez made his senior debut during the 2014/2015 season at age 17, his performance attracted top Premier League clubs, but Liverpool quickly secured his signature for a transfer fee of £3.5 million.

Joe Gomez made his debut for Liverpool in August 2015 in a game against Stoke City where he impressed the fans with his defensive quality. Sadly, his initial momentum was halted after he sustained a serious ACL injury while on international duty for England U21.

The injury kept him out for 17 months, he returned to action in 2017 under the management of Jürgen Klopp where his impact on games lead Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League final.

Another injury (Lower leg fracture) kept his out in the 2018/2019 just after signing another contract with the club, he returned to action towards the end of the season where he featured in the quarter final, semi final and finals of the Champions League where Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur.

His Partnership with Virgil Van Dijk lead Liverpool into a dominating campaign as the club won;

One of Gomez’s greatest strength is his ability to play across the entire defensive line. His natural position is a Centre back, but he also excels as a right back, left back, and a wide Centre back in a back three.

Before the 2022/2023 season, Gomez signed a new long term contract at the Merseyside, and also switched his iconic No12 shirt to No2.
