Defender 5
Jérémy Jacquet officially joined Liverpool in the summer of 2026 after completing a signing with the Reds in February of 2026, but was allowed to complete the season with Stade Rennais, his former club.
Jacquet was born on 13 July, 2005 in Bondy, a northeastern suburb of Paris, France, and is of Guadeloupean descent. He was born into a football loving community, which helped develop his passion for the game at a very young age.
Following the path that many talented French players did, he benefited from the French youth development system, which was his first shot at academy football.
He later joined the Rennes academy at 14, where he made consistent progress; the coaching staff soon recognised his tactical ability and maturity on the ball. Shortly after, he was promoted to Rennes’ senior side, where he would continue to compete at the bigger stage.
Jacquet made his first professional appearance for Staid Rennais football club on 13th January, 2024, in a Ligue 1 competition against Nice; he came in as a substitute in the 86th minute of the game that ended in a 2:0 win in favour of Rennes.
A few weeks after his debut, he made a loan move to Clermont Foot, another Ligue 1 side, where he spent the rest of the 2023/2024 season. At the end of the season, his loan spell was extended into the 2024/2025 season, but not until February 2025, when he was recalled to Rennes.
Jacquet was named in the UEFA European U19 Championship Team of the Tournament in 2024, but eventually France lost in the final to Spain.
The club paid €900,000 to Clermont Foot to end his loan spell early, without reaching the agreed duration of the loan contract. Jacquet was offered a loan extension on 26th May, 2025, a contract that would keep him at the club until 2029.
Liverpool agreed a pre-contract deal for the young French centre-back on 2 February, 2026, for a transfer fee of £55m plus an additional £5m in add-ons. Based on the nature of the contract, he was to continue for the rest of the 2025/2026 season at Rennes before completely joining Liverpool in the summer of 2026.
Jacquet has officially been unveiled as a Liverpool player and has been assigned Liverpool’s number 5 shirt that was previously worn by a fellow Frenchman, Ibrahima Konate, who joined Real Madrid at the end of the 2025/2026 season.
He will continue his development at Merseyside under the management of Andoni Iraola, the new Liverpool head coach.
