Midfielder 42
Trey Nyoni, a developing young talent, joined Liverpool in 2023, moving from King Power Stadium (Leicester City) to Anfield.
Nyoni was born on 30 June, 2007, in Reading, England, to parents of Zimbabwean origin. He started off his footballing career in Leicester City’s youth system, where at just age 15 he already made appearances for the U18 team in the academy.
In the 2022/2023 season, he made 13 appearances for the Leicester City U18 side, contributing two (2) goals while playing as a defensive midfielder. These performances attracted the interest of several clubs; eventually, Liverpool secured his signature.
Liverpool signed Trey Nyoni in September 2023; the club saw him as one of the potential best young midfielders in English football. A lot of controversy followed his signing, as Leicester City and Liverpool could not agree on a fee; a tribunal was set to determine the terms and fee of the contract.
Nyoni immediately showed his worth after joining the Reds, as he scored the winning goal for the Liverpool U18 side against Everton. His performance gave him a call-up to train alongside the senior team, and in October 2023 he made his debut for the U21 side.
His Liverpool U21 debut was in an EFL Trophy match against Barrow AFC; he made his first senior appearance on 24 February 2024 in an FA Cup match against Southampton. He came on as a substitute in the 78th minute for Harvey Elliott. At 16 years and 243 days, he became the youngest player to feature in a competition for Liverpool.
Nyoni continued to impress from the midfield, and on October 15, 2024, he signed his first professional contract with Liverpool FC. He became the club’s youngest player to feature in a European competition at 17 years 215 days after he appeared in a UEFA Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.
His development was rewarded with a contract extension on June 30, 2025, showing Liverpool’s belief in his long term potential. Shortly after, he made his Premier League debut on 20 December 2025 against Tottenham Hotspur. He replaced Florian Wirtz in the additional time of the second half in a 2:1 victory.
