Barcelona have reportedly identified Liverpool right-back Jeremie Frimpong as one of their options for the position, with the Dutchman said to be very open to a potential move to Camp Nou.

Reports suggest Liverpool could also be willing to open the door to Frimpong’s departure, with a fee of around £30 million being discussed.
Frimpong arrived at Liverpool with a strong reputation after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most dangerous attacking full-backs. However, his first spell at Anfield has not gone entirely according to plan.
The Dutchman has struggled to maintain consistency, with injuries also disrupting his rhythm and making it difficult for him to establish himself as a regular starter.
Frimpong’s Liverpool Struggles
There is no doubt that Frimpong possesses the qualities to be an outstanding modern full-back. His pace, attacking movement and ability to create opportunities from wide areas made him an attractive signing for Liverpool.
However, adapting to a new club and a different tactical environment has proved challenging.
Liverpool demand a lot from their full-backs, particularly in possession and during defensive transitions. Frimpong has yet to consistently demonstrate the level of reliability required to make the position his own.
His injury problems have not helped either. Just as he has looked capable of building momentum, interruptions have made it difficult for him to find sustained form.
That inconsistency could now lead Liverpool to consider whether a permanent exit would be the best solution for all parties.
Why Barcelona Could Make Sense
Barcelona’s interest would make sense from a footballing perspective.
Frimpong’s attacking qualities could fit naturally into Barcelona’s possession-based approach, where full-backs are often expected to provide width, attack spaces and contribute in the final third.
A move to Spain could also give Frimpong the opportunity to reset his career and play in an environment that potentially suits his strengths.
For Liverpool, meanwhile, selling the Dutchman for around £30 million could allow the club to reinvest the money into another area of the squad.

A Win-Win Situation?
There is also an interesting relationship between Liverpool and Barcelona that could make negotiations easier if both clubs decide that a deal makes sense.
Liverpool would get an opportunity to move on from a player who has struggled for consistency while recovering a significant portion of their investment.
Barcelona would get an experienced attacking full-back who still has plenty of room to rediscover his best form.
And Frimpong himself could benefit from a fresh start.
At this stage, however, Barcelona’s interest should be viewed as a developing situation rather than a completed transfer. A lot could still change before the summer window.
For Liverpool, the key question is simple: does Frimpong still have a long-term future at Anfield, or would £30 million be better spent strengthening another position?
If the Reds decide to open the door, Barcelona could provide an interesting destination for the Dutchman.
