Florian Wirtz has the talent, creativity and technical quality to become a special player for Liverpool. However, after a difficult afternoon against Manchester City, the expectation at Anfield is becoming clear: the German must show his brilliance more consistently.

Liverpool’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield has raised questions about several aspects of the team’s performance, and Wirtz is among the players who will face scrutiny.
The German playmaker arrived at Liverpool with enormous expectations, having established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents. His vision, close control, movement and ability to unlock defences have made him a player Liverpool supporters are eager to see flourish in a red shirt.
Yet, while there have been glimpses of his quality, Liverpool fans want those moments to become a regular feature of his performances.
Wirtz Has the Talent, but Liverpool Need More
There is little doubt about Wirtz’s natural ability. He possesses the technical qualities to influence matches, create opportunities in tight spaces and provide the creative spark Liverpool need against organised defences.
The challenge is turning that potential into consistent output.
Against Manchester-city, Liverpool struggled to make enough of an attacking impact, and Wirtz was unable to produce the kind of performance that could change the course of the contest. Although the defeat cannot be placed on one player’s shoulders, his display will inevitably attract attention because of the expectations surrounding him.
Liverpool did not bring Wirtz to Anfield simply to produce occasional moments of quality. They need a player capable of influencing games regularly, particularly when the team is struggling to find solutions.
Liverpool Supporters Want Consistency, Not Occasional Brilliance
For Liverpool fans, the frustration is not necessarily about questioning Wirtz’s talent. It is about wanting to see that talent translate into meaningful contributions more often.
A clever turn, an incisive pass or a moment of individual brilliance can remind supporters of what he is capable of achieving. However, those moments must become part of a consistent pattern rather than isolated highlights.
The Premier League demands intensity, physical resilience, quick decision-making and the ability to perform under pressure. For an attacking midfielder adjusting to a new environment, finding that consistency can take time.
Nevertheless, Liverpool supporters will expect progress. Wirtz is a player capable of setting high standards, and the expectation is that he will gradually become more influential in the team’s attacking play.
Liverpool Must Find a Way to Get the Best Out of Wirtz
It is also important to recognise that individual performances are influenced by the collective structure of the team.
Liverpool need to create the right conditions for Wirtz to receive the ball in dangerous areas, combine effectively with his teammates and operate in spaces where his creativity can hurt opponents.
Better movement around him, improved attacking combinations and a more consistent supply of the ball could help him express himself more effectively.
At the same time, Wirtz must take responsibility for imposing himself on matches. His ability to receive possession between the lines, carry the ball forward and create opportunities must become more evident, especially in high-profile fixtures.
The objective is not to demand a match-winning performance every week. It is to see regular signs of his influence, even when Liverpool are not at their best.
The Message to Wirtz Is Simple: Show Your Quality More Often
Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City was a disappointing result, but it should not define Wirtz’s time at the club. His talent remains clear, and there is still plenty of room for him to grow into the role Liverpool expect him to play.
However, patience does not mean expectations should disappear.
Liverpool supporters want to believe they are watching a player capable of controlling games, creating decisive moments and making the difference against the strongest opponents. To build that belief, Wirtz must turn his occasional flashes of brilliance into consistent performances.
The message is simple: Florian Wirtz, we know the talent is there. Now we want to see it more often.
