Liverpool youngster Trey Nyoni has revealed that former Reds midfielder Thiago Alcântara is the player he watches most closely, highlighting the influence the Spanish maestro could have on the next generation at Anfield.

Every young midfielder needs someone to learn from, and for Trey Nyoni, few players offer a better example than Thiago Alcântara.
The Liverpool academy prospect has named the former Reds midfielder as the player he models his game on, making no secret of his admiration for the technically gifted Spaniard.
Speaking about the players he watches and takes inspiration from, Nyoni said:
“For me, I always watch players like Thiago. For me, Thiago, yeah, he is the guy! Have I met him yet? No.”
His comments offer an insight into the type of midfielder Nyoni aspires to become as he continues his development at Liverpool.
Why Thiago Is the Perfect Midfield Role Model
Thiago was renowned for his exceptional technical ability, composure in possession and capacity to dictate the tempo of a game.
The former Liverpool midfielder could operate under pressure, manipulate the ball in tight spaces and find passing angles that opened up opposition defences. His ability to make difficult actions look effortless made him one of the most elegant midfielders of his generation.
For a young player like Nyoni, studying those qualities can provide valuable lessons in how to control games from midfield.
Rather than relying solely on physical attributes, Thiago demonstrated the importance of intelligence, positioning, awareness and precision when building attacks.
Those are qualities that can help shape a young midfielder’s understanding of the game.
Trey Nyoni’s Liverpool Journey Continues
Nyoni is one of the young talents Liverpool will hope can continue progressing towards a more prominent role in the first team.
The teenager has attracted attention for his technical ability and potential, with opportunities to train and play alongside senior professionals offering valuable experience as he develops.
Liverpool’s midfield has undergone significant changes in recent seasons, creating a pathway for emerging talents to work towards first-team opportunities.
However, Nyoni’s challenge will be to turn his potential into consistent performances, demonstrate his tactical maturity and convince the coaching staff that he can contribute at the highest level.
Having Thiago as a reference point could help him understand the demands of playing as a technically accomplished midfielder in Liverpool’s system.
Will Nyoni Get the Chance to Meet His Idol?
Perhaps the most interesting part of Nyoni’s admission is that, despite his admiration for Thiago, he has yet to meet the former Liverpool star.
His enthusiastic declaration that Thiago is the player for him underlines just how much the Spaniard’s style has influenced his footballing ambitions.
Whether Nyoni eventually gets the opportunity to meet his idol remains to be seen. For now, the Liverpool youngster can continue learning from the midfielder’s performances and applying those lessons to his own game.
Following in Thiago’s footsteps would be an ambitious target, but young players need high standards to aspire to as they work towards fulfilling their potential.
For Liverpool supporters, the hope is that Nyoni can take inspiration from one of the club’s most technically gifted recent midfielders and develop into a valuable player in his own right.
Thiago may have left Liverpool, but his influence could still be felt at Anfield through the next generation of midfield talent.
