Jeremie Frimpong is one of the most exciting right backs in football today, the Dutchman has already won trophies in Scotland and Germany, earned senior team spot for the Netherlands, and completed a dream move to Liverpool FC in the summer of 2025.

Frimpong was born on December 10, 2000, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Ghanaian parents. He is the fifth of seven children, and his upbringing was shaped by family, faith, and football.

He started his football journey playing for AFC Clayton on Saturday mornings, where his talent caught the eye of Manchester City’s scouts, and he was brought into their youth academy in 2010.

Frimpong spent nine years at the Manchester City academy, progressing steadily, he became a regular starter in their youth teams. He played in Premier League two (2) and the UEFA Youth League, training alongside stars like Jadon Sancho.

He left the Etihad in 2019, and joined the Scottish giants Celtic where he immediately made a good impression as he won the man of the match award in his very first appearance for the club in the Scottish League cup game against Partick Thistle.

His pace and dribbling ability caused chaos for opposition defenders, as he was energetic, fearless, and direct exactly the kind of player the Celtic fans adore. Frimpong was named Celtic’s Young Player of the Year for the 2019/2020 season, earning him so much praise especially from the manager Neil Lennon.

Frimpong made the move to Germany in 2021 joining Bayern Leverkusen for a transfer fee of £11.5 million. Under the management of Xabi Alonso, he evolved from a promising young full back into a complete attacking weapon combining defensive ability with forward runs and a goal scoring record.

Over four and a half seasons at Leverkusen, he made 190 appearances, scored 30 goals, and registered 44 assists. Those are numbers that belong to an attacking midfielder, not a right back.

He was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in both 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 proving his status as one of the best right back defenders across Europe.

In the Summer of 2025, Liverpool FC signed Frimpong for a transfer fee of  £29.5 million. His arrival followed the departure of Trent Alexander Arnold, and Liverpool saw him as the perfect player to fill that void on the right flank.

In his debut Premier League season, Frimpong has already shown glimpses of why Liverpool paid so much money to sign him. His runs down the right side and his directness in one on one situations have already impressed the fans.
